Business English

The Cambridge ESOL Business English Certificate (BEC) courses at Mantissa are part-time courses for students who are preparing to enter the business world, as well as for working adults who wish to improve their English language skills for business and commerce purposes.

These courses introduce students to key business concepts. Students learn language and skills that will enable them to communicate effectively in the business world through thematic lessons that integrate all the four major skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking, with relevant vocabulary and grammar. They also participate in realistic business communication activities that incorporate authentic reading and listening materials.

All new students are required to take a placement test which places them in an appropriate level. At the end of each level, all students sit for an internal (Mantissa-certified) examination. In addition, students may also opt to take an external (Cambridge-certified) examination.

Level 1: BEC Preliminary

This is an introductory course to key business concepts such basic concepts related to customers, marketing, travel and troubleshooting and SWOT analysis. Students learn language and skills that will help them to communicate in the business world.

Level 2: BEC Vantage

Students are introduced to more key business concepts such as customer care, project planning, corporate responsibility, market, competition, finance, profit and loss. Students learn language and skills that will enable them to be effective business communicators.

Level 3: BEC Higher

Students learn such business skills as making presentations, negotiating, and chairing and participating effectively in meetings through highly interactive activities which will enable them to become highly effective business communicators.
